Van Milligen, City Manager FROM: Mary Rose Corrigan, Public Health Specialist SUBJECT: Weed/Junk/Garbage Assessments DATE: June 22, 2018 INTRODUCTION The enclosed material provides for the levy of special assessments for Weed/Junk/Garbage Enforcement Programs with the Health Services Department. This project reflects properties enforced on from October 13, 2017 to June 4, 2018. DISCUSSION The City received compliance from the majority of the property owners who received notices. Fourteen (14) property owners did not comply with a notice to cut weeds or remove garbage/junk (see attached Schedule of Assessments). In such situations, the policy of the City is to correct the violations and levy the costs against property owners in the form of a special assessment, including the costs of a contractor perForming the work and a $25 administrative charge. The City hires private contractors as provided for in State statute. The total amount of the assessments is $1,680.00, which is being levied against fourteen (14) separate parcels of property. RECOMMENDATION I recommend that the City Council approve the attached final assessment schedule.
