Whereas, safe digging practices keep everyone safe and helps protect our city's
underground infrastructure; and
Whereas, the "Call Before You Dig" law applies, at all times, to homeowners and
contractors alike — whether you're a setting a fencepost or excavating a
basement; and
Whereas, every six minutes, an underground utility line is damaged because
someone didn't call at least two days before digging; and
Whereas, 811 is the phone number to call before digging, making August 11 (8-1-1)
the perfect day to celebrate Safe Digging Day; and
Whereas. Safe Digging Day provides an important opportunity to emphasize our
state law to dial 811 and have underground utility lines marked for free
before you break ground.
NOW THEREFORE, I, ROY BUOL, MAYOR OF THE CITY OF DUBUQUE, IOWA, ON
BEHALF OF THE CITY COUNCIL, STAFF AND THE CITIZENS OF DUBUQUE, DO
HEREBY PROCLAIM THE 11 t" DAY OF AUGUST 2018 AS
