LibraryBoard ofTrustees Update
From theMeering ofJune 28, 2018

Excused: Patty Poggemiller, President
. The Library Board of Trustees approved expenditures.
. Expenditures were at 87°k and revenue collected is at 94°k of projections
at the end of May. The Library is on target to come in under budget for FY
2018.
. A decrease in the checkout of DVDs was nearly 17°k. Accessing TV
series and movies has changed in recent years and the decrease in
checkouts of DVDs likely reflects this trend even though this collection
remains very popular. Similar to streaming music, there are few models for
streaming video for libraries. Streaming video services for libraries have
one similarity: no new or popular material is available. The Library
expects to find a niche by providing high quality independent films and
documentaries through a streaming service. On July 1 Kanopy, a
company that specializes in this market, will be introduced. It currently
has over 30,000 titles to choose from and hundreds of new films are
added monthly.
. The Library's advertising campaign kicked off in May with a call to action
to check out digital materials. Increased use in Overdrive (e-books,
e-audio, and streaming movies), Flipster (digital magazines), and Freegal
(downloadable music) were anticipated as a result. Comparing
Overdrive, Flipster and Freegal to checkouts in May of 2017, Overdrive
increased by 13.7°k, Flipster decreased 5.3°k, and Freegal increased
3.3°k in 2018.
. The June campaign features the $400+ prize giveaway for interacting with
C-SPL. If the June campaign is successful, increases in Facebook,
Twitter, Instagram, sign-up for newsletters, Overdrive, Freegal, Flipster,
and web visits can be anticipated.
. Other advertising taking place is the promotion of homebound delivery
service and recruit volunteers to deliver materials to homes and to
educate people about the fine free trial starting in July.
. Although not fully funded, the DRA approved a $10,000 grant toward the
purchase of a portable soundproof room for audio recordings. The
Foundation has pledged $5,000 toward this project. The Board of Trustees
voted to use funds from a recent bequest by Frank Honigman to complete
the room, which will be named for Honigman and the DRA.
. The bike library debuted June 11 at Flora Park as a kick-off to the
Summer Reading Program. The event attracted over 100 people. The
manufacturer returned to the library to correct defects to do with finish
work on the bicycle. After this, the decorative wrap will be applied to the
octagon shaped cabinet that holds shelving units and active promotion will
begin.
