COMMISSION MEETING MINUTES
GOVERNMENTAL BODY: Resilient Community Advisory Commission
DATE: June 7, 2018
TIME: 5:00 pm
LOCATION: Conference Room #1
City Hall Annex, 1300 Main St, Dubuque IA 52001
MEMBERS PRESENT: Dean Boles, Sara Booth, Steve Drahozal, Robin Kennicker, Laura Roussell,
Leah Specht. Absent: Ben Darr, Shane Hoeper, Carrie Lohrmann
STAFF PRESENT: Assistant City Manager Cori Burbach
President Specht called the meeting to order at 5:02 p.m. Burbach confirmed that the meeting was in
compliance with the lowa Open Meeting Law.
MINUTE APPROVAL: Boles motioned, and Kennicker seconded, approval of the minutes from the May
3, 2018 meeting, with the correction that the notes regarding the Housing Commission were discussed
by Hoeper and not Boles. The motion passed unanimously.
PUBLIC COMMENT: None.
COMMUNICATION REGARDING COLLABORATING FOR AN EQUITABLE AND INCLUSIVE
COMMUNITY: Drahozal motioned, and Roussel seconded, to receive and file the documentation.
RCAC ANNUAL STRATEGIC PLANNING: Commissioners conducted their annual goal-setting
session. As a result of discussion, consensus was reached to complete a Commission input document
for the annual City Council Goal-setting process and revise their Commission strategic priorities. Boles
moved, and Kennicker seconded, to establish the priorities as agreed upon. Burbach will complete the
documents based on direction from the commitment and submit to Specht for signature. She will
provide a copy for the record at the August 2, 2018 meeting.
COMMISSIONER REPORTS: Boles reported that the Community Development Advisory Commission
approved two grants the Valley View and Downtown Neighborhood Associations. Specht reported that
Roosevelt Middle School broke ground on their Sustainable Dubuque community grant-funded
greenhouse. Roussel reported that 35 trees were planted by Trees Forever this year. Kennicker
reported that Crescent Community Health Center will have a community health fair in August, and there
will be a meeting regarding the new Dubuque County Food Policy Council on June 11 .
NEXT MEETING: There will be not meeting on Thursday July 5, 2018. The next meeting will occur on
Thursday, August 2 ant 5:00 pm in the City Hall Annex.
ADJOURNMENT: Roussel moved, and Boles seconded, to adjourn at 620 pm.
