ITEM TITLE: Brain Health Awareness Month (November 2018) SUMMARY: SUGGESTED DISPOSITION: ATTACHMENTS: Description Type Brain Health Awareness Month Proclamation Supporting Documentation THE CITY OF UB E Masterpiece on the Mississippi WHEREAS, brain health is critical to everyone's well-being; and WHEREAS, the brain is an organ susceptible to disease and disorder; and WHEREAS, awareness and education are pivotal to end the stigma around brain health issues; and WHEREAS, the Dubuque County Health Needs Assessment cites access to mental health services as a concern in our community; and WHEREAS, with effective education, coordinated services, and treatment those individuals with brain health issues and those that provide services to those individuals can work together for recovery in a stigma-free environment; and WHEREAS, the local Brain Health Committee consists of local services providers, public health, treatment facilities, policy makers, non-profit members, advocacy groups, and those directly impacted by brain health disorders are working to address community needs and provide education and advocacy. NOW, THEREFORE, I, ROY D. BUOL, MAYOR OF THE CITY OF DUBUQUE, ON BEHALF OF THE CITY COUNCIL, STAFF AND CITIZENS OF DUBUQUE, DO HEREBY PROCLAIM THE MONTH OF NOVEMBER 2018 AS: "BRAI N H EALTH AWAREN ESS MONTH" IN THE CITY OF DUBUQUE, IOWA, AND URGE DUBUQUE RESIDENTS TO RECOMMIT OUR COMMUNITY TO INCREASING AWARENESS AND UNDERSTANDING OF BRAIN HEALTH AND THE NEED FOR UNDERSTANDING, ACCEPTANCE, AND AWARENESS OF ALL PEOPLE WITH BRIAN HEALTH ISSUES.
