This is due, in no small part,to the City's decision in the mid-1990s to acquire and develop over 900 acres of additional property to provide a 20- year suppty of industrial park land. Those 900 acres are now called Dubuque Technology Park, Dubuque Industrial CenterWest, Dubuque Industrial Center North, and Dubuque Industrial Center i South. These industrial parks now are home to 49 businesses employing over 4,400 people. These businesses have constructed 4 million square feet of buildings and invested well over$200 million. The majority of these are local companies that needed space to expand. In 2015,the City purchased an additional 200 acres of developable land connected to Dubuque Industrial Center West. These 200 acres of developable land, when teamed up with the 150 acres remaining from the purchases in the 1990s, are expected to provide a five to 15-year suppty of industrial park property. • 1 industrial parks Overthe years, the City has used several funding mechanisms to purchase and • 1,440+ acres develop industrial park property. Some of the initial expenses utilized the City's • 56 businesses general fund, water fund, and sanitary sewer fund, which were repaid by future • 6,483+ employees tax increment financing (TIF) land sale revenues. More recentty, the City issued debt using Dubuque Industrial Center Urban Renewal District TIF revenues to fund industrial park land purchases. By state law, these funds can only be used for economic development purposes in that urban renewal district.
