ITEM TITLE: Eagles Eyes on the Future Month (January 2019) SUMMARY: SUGGESTED DISPOSITION: ATTACHMENTS: Description Type Eagles Eyes on the Future Month Proclamation Supporting Documentation '1'HF.CiTY OF DUB E Mnsterpiece on the Mississippi ������������ JANUARY 2019 DUBUQUE EAGLES "EYES ON THE FUTURE" MONTH Whereas, in January 2008, Founder and Chairman, Michael Duehr, sat down with Loras Student, Matt Maloney (then President of the Loras Student Body) in a conference room at the Student of Life Office on the Loras College campus to lay out a vision for college and high school students, who have a passion for service, to join us on a journey to empower people, make a profound investment in people; to be a resourceful partner with citizenship and to follow their passion to heed a call to service, to assist young students to further their education, pursue their dreams, and help those less fortunate; and Whereas, the Dubuque Eagles "Eyes on the Future" Committee members include Allison Klosterman, Alex Kruse and Christian Stillings from Loras College; Bryton Melenas, Jim Zebold, Colin Miller, Greg Ballenger, Josh Phalen, Sara Crews, Josh Mackey, Bret Scoles, Ryan Schmitt, Jennifer Schuller, and Hanna Eliott from Clarke University; Maddie Parker, Megan Ranney, Andrew Dresselhaus, and Brandon Ramos from University of Dubuque; Daniel Timmerman and Andrew Timmerman from Wahlert Catholic High School; Brian Ries from Hempstead High School; Kathryn Lincicum, Angel Bella Nekvinda, Kyra Townsend, Julie Ann Fernandez, and Jon Flannagan from Senior High School; Jaydee Johnson, Jefferson Middle School; Josh Birch, Fulton Elementary; Jayce Genthe, Platteville Middle School. Whereas, Michael Duehr is Founder and Chairman of the Eagles "Eyes on the Future" Committee, now in our eleventh year; and Whereas, since January of 2008, the Eagles "Eyes on the Future" Committee has raised funds for six (6) $500 college scholarships each year, which totaled $36,000, and includes $100 donated each year to the high school and college teacher of the year, plus plaque, $100 donated for"Sign on for Literacy", plus $100 donated to Loras, Clarke, and University of Dubuque Student and Education Fund; we support and assist five (5) homeless shelters, over $20,000 donated; volunteer and donate food and funds to Area Labor Harvest Food Pantry; donation to "Reflections in the Park"; Toys for Tots; D.A.R.E. programs (Police and Sherif�; Hillcrest Family Services; ringing bells for Salvation Army for two weekends, with over $2,000 raised, donate $500 and treats to the dogs and cats at the Animal Shelter; Crescent Community Health Center; Operation New View; Dream Center, Multi-Cultural Center; Two x Two Character Development. St. Mark's Youth and Enrichment Program; Mentor Dubuque; Dubuque Boy's Club; 25 to 30 pairs of tennis shoes to Hillcrest Family Services kids; Prevention of Child Abuse; sponsor and pay for Mentor Christmas Party; "Open CloseY', donate and do service work; VNA's breast cancer screenings and mammograms for low-income women; Christmas presents for families in need; for eleven (11) years donate Christmas presents for ten (10) kids at Hillcrest who have no place to go for Christmas; put on Thanksgiving meals for homeless people and families in need; donate $1,000 to the Vets for "Operation We Care"; and put on meals for our Vets at the Veteran's Freedom Center; volunteer for "Make a Difference" Day and our own "Passion for Service" Day; our own "Christmas Service" Day, and raising money for high school scholarships for six (6) girls in Malawai, and much more. NOW, THEREFORE, I, Roy D. Buol, Mayor of the City of Dubuque, lowa on behalf of the City Council, staff, and citizens of Dubuque, do hereby officially recognize the extraordinary and continued efforts of the Dubuque Eagles "Eyes on the Future" Committee for their volunteer work and engaged citizenship and hereby proclaim the month of January, 2019 in their honor in the City of Dubuque.
