Resilient Community Advisory Commission Request to Delcare Position Vacant Copyrighted January 22, 2019 City of Dubuque Consent Items # 9. ITEM TITLE: Resilient Community Advisory Commission Request to Declare Position Vacant SUMMARY: Correspondence from the Resilient Community Advisory Commission requesting that a position be declared vacant and a replacement appointed. SUGGESTED DISPOSITION: Suggested Disposition: Receive and File; Approve ATTACHMENTS: Description Type Letter from Resiliency Commission Chair Supporting Documentation January 17, 2019 Dear Mayor Buol and City Council Members, I'm writing as the chair of the Resilient Community Advisory Commission. We recently had one of our commissioners resign from the commission due to his inability to commit to the commission. This made all the commissioners grateful that he was considerate of the task at hand. It also made us realize that another member does not appear to have the dedication to the board that we need. Per the commission's ordinance (32-16), "in the event a commissioner has been absent for three (3) or more consecutive meetings of the commission, without being excused by the chairperson, such absence will be grounds for the commission to recommend to the city council that the position be declared vacant and a replacement appointed." In 2018, besides missing 3 consecutive months (May,June, August; no meeting in July) Commissioner Ben Darr missed two other meetings plus a subcommittee meeting. In 2019, he missed our first meeting. I touched base with him in the fall of 2018 regarding his participation and commitment to the commission at which time he shared his strong commitment to the commission. After missing the January meeting, I requested that staff inember, Gina Bell, reach out to him to ask if he was still interested in serving on the commission. She copied me on the email dated 1/7/2019 requesting this information. Additionally, she emailed him again on 1/15/2019 and followed up with a phone call.To date, we have not heard from him. I respectfully request that you vacate his seat on the Resilient Community Advisory Commission. I would like to give the opportunity to serve fully on this commission to another capable citizen. If you 'd like to chat, please give me a call. T ank you for your consideration, , . . Leah Specht Chair, Resilient Community Advisory Commission City of Dubuque
