FEBRUARY 2019 DUBUQUE EAGLES AERIE & AUXILIARY MONTH
WHEREAS, the Dubuque Eagles have been in existence and serving the Dubuque community and its
residents for over 115 years; and
WHEREAS, the Dubuque Eagles in the last 35 years have made numerous contributions to charity and
agencies and people in need and have become the pillar of the community assisting people of all walks of
life especially the youth of our beloved city and community; and
WHEREAS, the Dubuque Eagles have donated over $30,000 to Hospice of Dubuque; $300,000 to Finley
Hospital (Wendt Cancer Center, Kehl Diabetes Center, Rehabilitation, Kidney and Mental Health
Departments); $80,000 to $100,000 to Hills and Dales and Camp Albrecht Acres; over $70,000 to the
Prevention of Child Abuse, which includes VNA's Parent- Partnership Program; over$69,000 to the DARE
Drug Prevention Program; over $70,000 for college scholarships; over $17,000 donated to the Big Brother
- Big Sister Program; donations of over$30,000 to law enforcement projects; over$59,000 for CPR grants
for fire departments; plus many donations to food pantries and homeless shelters such as Maria House,
the Teresa Shelter and the Dubuque Rescue Mission; plus grants for weatherization projects and grants to
assist Operation New View Community Action Agency and Crescent Community Health Center; for 30
years in a row, the Dubuque Eagles have donated $1,000 each to the Dubuque Sheriff and Police
D.A.R.E. programs; for 30 years in a row, $2,500 to $5,000 Cancer grants to Wendt Cancer Center; for 28
years in a row, the Eagles have donated a $1,000 to $5,000 a year to the prevention of child abuse
programs -that's consistency; plus more; and
WHEREAS, local member and past President, Michael Duehr is the founder and chairman of the Eagles
"Eyes on the Future" Committee along with students from Loras College, Clarke University, University of
Dubuque, Hempstead High School, Wahlert Catholic High School and Senior High School, who have
raised over $36,000 in college scholarships in the last eleven years; and have raised money for many
other charities in the Dubuque community with young people who have an eye on the future and a passion
for service; and we help and assist five homeless shelters in our beloved city; and "Operation We care" for
our local Veterans.
NOW THEREFORE I, Roy D. Buol, Mayor of the City of Dubuque, lowa on behalf of the City Council, staff,
and citizens of Dubuque, do hereby officially recognize the tremendous and continued efforts of the
Dubuque Eagles and their wonderful volunteer work and engaged citizenship and do hereby proclaim the
month of February 2019 in their honor.
