ITEM TITLE: Read Across America Day Proclamation (March 4, 2019) SUMMARY: SUGGESTED DISPOSITION: ATTACHMENTS: Description Type Read Across America Day Proclamation Supporting Documentation THE CITY OF UB E Masterpiece on the Mississippi WHEREAS, the citizens of Dubuque, lowa stand firmly committed to promoting reading as the catalyst for our students' future academic success, their preparation for America's jobs of the future, and their ability to compete in a global economy; and WHEREAS, St Mark Youth Enrichment has provided significant leadership in the area of community involvement in the education of our youth, grounded in the principle that educational investment is key to the community's well-being and long-term quality of life; and WHEREAS, "National Educators of America's Read Across America," a national celebration of Dr. Seuss's 115th birthday, promotes reading and adult involvement in the education of our community's students. WHEREAS, that this body enthusiastically endorses "NEA's Read Across America" and recommits our community to engage in programs and activities to make America's children the best readers in the world. NOW THEREFORE, I, ROY D. BUOL, MAYOR OF THE CITY OF DUBUQUE, IOWA, ON BEHALF OF THE CITY COUNCIL, STAFF AND THE CITIZENS OF DUBUQUE, DO HEREBY PROCLAIM THE 4TH DAY OF MARCH 2O19 AS: "D U B U QU E'S READ AC ROSS AM E RI CA DAY" IN THE CITY OF DUBUQUE, IOWA AND THAT THE DUBUQUE CITY COUNCIL CALLS ON THE CITIZENS OF DUBUQUE TO ENSURE THAT EVERY CHILD IS IN A SAFE PLACE READING TOGETHER WITH A CARING ADULT ON MARCH 4, 2019; IN WITNESS THEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Great Seal of the City of Dubuque to be affixed this 18th day of February 2019.
