Ware, Leisure Services Manager SUBJECT: Five Flags Civic Center Activities and Events Update DATE: February 11, 2019 INTRODUCTION The purpose of this memorandum is to request an opportunity for HR Cook, SMG General Manager to share an update on the Five Flags Civic Center activities and events with the City Council. DISCUSSION A bond referendum was held for the construction of the Five Flags Civic Center which was to be attached to the existing newly renovated theater. On August 16, 1976 Dubuque voters approved a $3.7 million bond referendum to begin construction in the fall. The final vote was 70% positive with 60% needed to pass. Five Flags Civic Center had its grand opening on March 24, 1979. Fast forward to March 24, 2019....Five Flags Civic Center will be 40 years old. HR Cook will share an update of activities and events as well as highlight some festivities to celebrate 40 years. ACTION REQUESTED I respecffully request the opportunity on the upcoming City Council agenda for HR Cook, SMG General Manager to report the Five Flags Civic Center activities and event prior to the upcoming 40�h anniversary of Five Flags. cc: HR Cook, SMG General Manager
