The number of items checked out increased 12% largely attributed to children's items, audio, and digital materials. The number of programs held in Youth and Adult Services and the Maker Space increased as did attendance. The number of new certified makers was 46 during the month of December, compared to 10 new certified makers in December of 2017. • The number of programs held in the Maker Space in December quadrupled as did attendance to the programs. Red Rokk promoted the Maker Space in December and we believe this had a positive impact. • Freegal music increased in use 28% compared to the same time last year. E- books and e-audio also increased 28%. Overall, downloadable materials increased 37% in checkouts compared to the same time last year. • The Red Rokk campaign ended on December 31, and was successful. New cards issued in 2018 increased 13% compared to 2017. The checkout of e-Books and e- Audio increased 20% compared to 2017 (calendar year) and streaming video increased 124%. The streaming video is likely associated with the introduction of Kanopy, which has a strong collection to offer compared to Overdrive. • The Board approved the 2019 Plan of Service—(copy attached for your review). • The Board heard a draft of the FY 2020 budget presentation to City Council and concurred with the budget requests. The Library presentation is February 11, 6:30 p.m. at the Historic Federal Building. • Art @ your library opens on Friday, February 1 and this show will feature all library-owned works of art. Some ofthem have been rarely seen, as they have been stored in a vault at the Dubuque Museum of Art. The Board decided that the works would be displayed in the library permanently following the show as we are better equipped to exhibit them than when they were put in storage in the late 1990s. All library windows now have UV protection and a state-of-the-art HVAC was installed duringthe renovation. Some ofthe artworks will require restoration priar to hanging. • The Board voted to not hire a marketing agency in 2019 and hire a part-time marketing coordinator, funded by the James Mutschler Trust Fund. Amanda Dolter was recommended to hire. She has eatensive experience in working for non-profit organizations, for example, Dubuque Regional Humane Society, National Mississippi River Museum, and Two-by-Two.
