ITEM TITLE: Scandinavian Music and Culture Week(March 18-23, 2019) SUMMARY: SUGGESTED DISPOSITION: ATTACHMENTS: Description Type Scandinavian Music and Culture Week Proclamation Supporting Documentation THE CITY OF UB E Masterpiece on the Mississippi WHEREAS, Norwegian folk group, the Unni Boksasp Ensemble visits Dubuque March 18t" through March 23, 2019 for the group's only lowa engagement as part of an Arts Midwest World Fest n ine-state tou r; and WHEREAS, Arts Midwest connects small and mid-sized Midwestern communities to world cultures through week-long residencies with global performers; and WHEREAS, the Unni Boksasp Ensemble marks the final of four global music ensemble residencies over a two-year period with groups representing Israel, Japan, China, and Norway; and WHEREAS, the Dubuque Arts Council and University of Dubuque Heritage Center team up in a collaborative venture to make this engagement possible along with support from the National Endowment for the Arts, the lowa Arts Council, The Hearst Foundations, 3M, the Japan Foundation through the Performing Arts program, the Kaufman Family Fund for Israeli Cultural Exchange, the Nordic Culture Fund, and Music Norway; and WHEREAS, the Unni Boksasp Ensemble will perform educational outreach throughout the week for two thousand students in grades Pre-K to 8 throughout eight area schools including Eisenhower, Resurrection, Bryant, Marshall, and St. Anthony/Our Lady of Guadalupe, all of Dubuque, as well as outlying schools located in Farley, Peosta, and Dyersville; and WHEREAS, the Unni Boksasp Ensemble will offer a pre-concert talk from 6:30 to 7:00 p.m. in Babka Theatre prior to their mainstage concert presentation in Heritage Center's John and Alice Butler Hall on Saturday evening, the 23rd of March; and WHEREAS, Dubuque values a harmonious relationship between the state of lowa and the United States of America and Norway as a critical necessity to the citizenry of both countries. NOW THEREFORE, I, ROY D. BUOL, MAYOR OF THE CITY OF DUBUQUE, IOWA, ON BEHALF OF THE CITY COUNCIL, STAFF AND THE CITIZENS OF DUBUQUE, DO HEREBY PROCLAIM THE WEEK OF MARCH 18 - 23, 2019 AS "SCAN DINAVIAN MUSIC AN D CULTU RE WEEK" IN THE CITY OF DUBUQUE, IOWA.
