Proclamation Fire CommendationPROCI AMATION
WHEREAS, shortly before midnight, April 1, 2003 a fire roared through the Kristy
Monahan family home at 1745 Madison Street; and
WHEREAS,
Kiera, age 12, had recently learned fire evacuation procedures at the
Boys and Girls Club of Dubuque and quickly woke her mother and
four siblings, ages I through 11, and they were able to evacuate the
home but were trapped on a back deck, high off the ground; and
WHEREAS,
City of Dubuque Police Officers Randy Roy, Scott Koch, David
Lindecker, Jeff Reimer, and Corporal Mike Schmit, as well as Fire
Equipment Operators John Fitzgerald, Dennis Bradley and
Firefighters Bruce Miller, Brian McDonald and Brian Klinkner, all
worked quickly to reach Kristy and her children, carrying them to
safety from their dangerous perch; and
WHEREAS,
tragedy was averted by the quick response and action of our
emergency services employees, and they are to be commended for
their immediate response and selfless actions in rescuing this family
and bringing the fire under control.
NOW THEREFORE, I, TERRANCE M. DUGGAN, MAYOR OF THE CITY OF
DUBUQUE, ON BEHALF OF THE CITY COUNCIL, STAFF AND CITIZENS,
COMMEND KIERA MONAHAN, OUR CITY POLICE AND FIRE EMPLOYEES WHO
FEARLESSLY WORKED QUICKLY TO RESCUE THIS FAMILY AND AVERT
FURTHER TRAGEDY.
IN WITNESS THEREOF, I have
