Whereas, the sport of baseball is America's national pastime; and
Whereas, the United States Conference of Mayors and Major League Baseball declare June
through August as Play Ball Sumer; and
Whereas, Play Ball Summer encourages families and communities to participate in games of
baseball and softball thus creating a sustainable enthusiasm for the game; and
Whereas, Cities across the country will be coming together during this summer to support the
growth of baseball and softball; and
Whereas, the sports of baseball and softball have taught youth valuable life lessons of teamwork
perseverance, leadership and sportsmanship and have produced countless family and
community bonding experiences; and
Whereas, the sports of baseball and softball have formed a diverse culture showcasing a
snapshot of where America stands today; and
Whereas, the sports of baseball and softball provide a proud sense of belonging to something
bigger than oneself; and
Whereas, we recognize the importance and influence of the sports of baseball and softball in the
City of Dubuque, lowa
NOW THEREFORE, I, ROY D. BUOL, MAYOR OF THE CITY OF DUBUQUE, IOWA, ON BEHALF
OF THE CITY COUNCIL, STAFF AND THE CITIZENS OF DUBUQUE, DO HEREBY PROCLAIM
THE JUNE THROUGH AUGUST 2019 AS
"PLAY BALL SUMMER"
IN THE CITY OF DUBUQUE, IOWA.
IN WITNESS THEREOF, I have hereunto set my
