WHEREAS, the Honorable Abraham Lincoln, later our nation's 16th President, visited Dunleith,
Illinois and Dubuque, lowa on the 16t", 17t" and 18t" of July 1859 on Illinois Central
Railroad business; and
WHEREAS, in recognition and in commemoration of the fact that 160 years ago, Abraham Lincoln,
along with his wife Mary and son's Willie and Tad, stayed at the Julien House hotel in
Dubuque — our city's present-day Hotel Julien Dubuque.
NOW THEREFORE, I, ROY D. BUOL, MAYOR OF THE CITY OF DUBUQUE, IOWA, ON BEHALF
OF THE CITY COUNCIL, STAFF AND THE CITIZENS OF DUBUQUE, DO HEREBY PROCLAIM
THE 17t" DAYOFJULY2019AS:
"AB RAH AM L I N C O L N DAY"
IN THE CITY OF DUBUQUE, IOWA IN RECOGNITION OF MR. LINCOLN'S VISIT TO THE KEY
CITY OF THE NORTHWEST.
IN WITNESS THEREOF, I have hereunto set my
hand and caused the Great Seal of the City of
Dubuque to be affixed this 15th day of July 2019.
