Van Milligen, City Manager SUBJECT: Van Buren Street Energy Dissipator Project DATE: August 13, 2019 Through the competitive quotation process for public improvements, the Van Buren Street Energy Dissipator Project was awarded on February 28, 2019, to Drew Cook & Sons Excavating Co. Inc., in the amount of $85,681.50, which is 4.77% over the estimate of probable cost. City Engineer Gus Psihoyos recommends that the award for the Van Buren Street Energy Dissipator Project be officially recorded in the minutes of the City Council. DISCUSSION This Van Buren Street Energy Dissipator Project involves improvements to the outlet of the 72" diameter storm sewer south of Van Buren Street near Hickson Avenue. The existing storm outlets into a natural drainage ditch which has become unstable. Without the improvements, the ditch will continue to deteriorate and undermine both the storm sewer and adjacent private property BID RESULTS Sealed informal bids were received on February 23, 2019, for the Van Buren Street Energy Dissipator Project. Drew Cook & Sons Excavating Co. Inc. of Dubuque, IA submitted the low bid in the amount of $85,681.50, which is 4.77% over the estimate of probable cost. Inc. of Dubuque, IA, in the bid contract amount of$85,681.50.
