Fuerste_Letter Commending Refuse Collection ServiceFebruary 15, 2010
To the Honorable Mayor, Manager, and Members of the City Council,
1300 Main Street,
City of Dubuque, Iowa, 52001
USA
Dear Gentlepersons:
But this communication is of a different sort. It is a sincere Thank You!
One of my great household chores is to assemble the week's trash and recycles in appropriate
containers for early morning Friday pickup by the City.
But a call to Refuse Collection explaining the calamity to a charming answerer named Theresa
resulted almost immediately in a truck stopping at my home, its occupants emptying all
containers, and even placing them next to my garage door a considerable distance from curbside!
What kind thoughtfulness!!
Sincerely, Bill Fuerste joined with Wife Margaret!

Your undersigned eighty -seven year old correspondent has written many letters to your Honors in
the past, including communications to your City Attorneys stretching back to Thomas H. Nelson,
later District Court Judge, Romolo N. Russo, and your current counsel Barry A. lindahl, all
remembered with pleasure as usually the commencement of a great fun legal tussle with the City
of Dubuque over some unique dispute or other!
I am relegated to a walker to get around the house at all; even my trusty left -foot drive PT Cruiser
has been taken from me! And my poor wife is currently disabled with a broken left arm, the
result of an elderly fall. But with great help from children, their spouses, et al., we manage to
stay at our home on South Grandview.
This includes arranging for its transmission to curbside the night before!. And the night of
February 11 t ° I failed to get this done, beyond assembling my mountains of trash in containers
and putting them out on my driveway, but not arranging for their movement to curbside by others,
and something we are quite unable to do ourselves! No Friday pickup! Alas!
I am not suggesting that we or anyone else should repeat our errors, but this was a very nice piece
of City kindness and those who took part in it should be highly commended! Thank you again!
