Re: Iowa Values fund
Dear Senator Connoliy:
I just wanted to take a moment to request your support for efforts to include the arts and
culture in the proposed Iowa Values Fund. In August 2002, the Dubuque City Council
included arts and culture as part of their annual goal-setting process. We recognize that
increased quality of life is an important factors for businesses to consider when
choosing to locate or expand in a community. The arts play an important role in these
quality of life experiences. It is my understanding that proposed legislation for the Iowa
Values fund will include nearly $900 million to fund programs such as Community
Attraction and Tourism (CAT) grants as well as the creation of a cultural trust to promote
culture and entertainment districts. Several Dubuque art and cultural organizations has
been the fortunate recipient of such funding.
Please encourage others in voting yes for legislation to support cultural advocacy
programs as part of the Iowa Values Fund. These programs are part of a
comprehensive economic development package for Iowa.
