SUBJECT: PEG Fund Request
DATE: October 2, 2019
Cable TV Coordinator Craig Nowack is recommending approval of the Cable TV
Commission recommendation for funding from the Public, Educational, and Government
(PEG) Capital Grant for Access Equipment and Facilities in the amount of $25,500 for
the City of Dubuque to purchase a new graphics server and a new playback server for
the two government access cable channels.
I concur with the recommendation and respectfully request Mayor and City Council
approval.

RE: PEG Fund Request
INTRODUCTION
The purpose of this memorandum is to forward a recommendation from the Cable TV
Commission for a request for funding from the Capital Grant for Access Equipment and
Facilities.
BACKGROUND
At its meeting today, the Cable TV Commission recommended up to $25,500 to purchase a new
graphics server and a new playback server for the City of Dubuque's two government access
cable channels.
The Capital Grant for Access Equipment and Facilities currently has a balance to be awarded of
$753,029.
RECOMMENDED ACTION
I respectfully request that the Commission's recommendation be forwarded to the City Council
to receive, file, and approve.

Provide a general description of what you are requesting and why::This request is to replace the graphics and playback
servers in the CityChannel Dubuque control room. Both are due for replacement and both current servers operate on
Windows 7 which Microsoft shortly will stop supporting. These are the two servers that make the City's two cable
channels and live stream possible. The total amount requested should accommodate shipping for these larger servers.
Describe how the community will benefit from your request::The community benefits from having access to the
information provided by the City's two government access cable channels. From coverage of City Council meetings, to
community events, informational programming, meeting announcements, and downtown weather data, a tremendous
amount of important information is broadcast to local residents.
