Dear Dirk:
The strength of our organization depends on the participation and support of its members. The League
relies on strong and active committees as the vehicle for member participation and assurance that
League objectives are consistent with those of our member cities. Toward that end, I am respectfully
requesting that you serve on the Legislative Policy Committee.
The League bylaws require appointment of at least ten members with the president -elect serving as
chair of this committee. Our tradition has been to balance the committee with experienced committee
members and those new to League participation. The purpose of the committee is to prepare
recommendations for priorities for the 2011 legislative session. This committee meets three times a
year, usually in July and August followed by a meeting in November to prepare for session. The
committee also provides a venue for vetting opinions on legislative issues that arise during session.
The committee this year is chaired by president- elect, Mayor Ruth Randleman of Carlisle.
Please feel free to contact the League office if you have any questions. For your convenience, we
have enclosed a response form that you can fax to the League office prior to December 11. You may
also call (515) 244 -7282 or email your response to alankemp @iowaleague.org or
shannonbusby @iowaleague.org. I hope you will agree to be a part of this very important committee.
Thank you.
Sincerely,
az in.
