WHEREAS, Brian Ries has been a valuable member of the Eagles "Eyes on the
Future" Committee for six years.
WHEREAS, Brian has since stood out as a reliable and committed member of the
Committee. He is always polite, sees the common good in everyone
he meets, and is well liked by fellow students. and
WHEREAS, Brian has been honored and recognized by the Governor of the State
of lowa, Mayor Roy Buol and the Dubuque City Council, and the
citizens of Dubuque for helping and assisting people and less-fortunate
families. Brian has yearly volunteered at the "Open Closet" free
clothing give away; serving meals at the City Rescue Mission;
volunteering at the Food Pantry; ringing bells for the Salvation Army;
serving meals to our vets at the VeYs Freedom Center; being involved
in "Make a Difference Day"; the Eagle's "Passion for Service" Day and
"Christmas Service" Day; and
WHEREAS, When Brian was five years old, he and Big Brother and Mentor,
Michael Duehr, formed a mentorship that has lasted for 13 years. Brian
has since said he wants to be a mentor someday, himself, like Michel
Duehr. With all that you stand for, I know that your parents, Mr. Duehr,
and the citizens of Dubuque are very proud of you; and
WHEREAS, this year, Brian will receive the "Jimmy Duehr Student of Good
Character" award for representing what is good about our great
country and our great City.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, ROY D. BUOL, MAYOR OF THE CITY OF DUBUQUE,
IOWA, ON BEHALF OF THE CITY COUNCIL, STAFF, AND CITIZENS OF
DUBUQUE, DO HEREBY OFFICIALLY RECOGNIZE THAT THIS WORLD IS A
BETTER PLACE BECAUSE OF YOUNG, SPIRITED AND COMMITTED PEOPLE
LIKE BRIAN RIES. THANK YOU, BRIAN.
