Van Milligen, City Manager SUBJECT: City Hall Sidewalk Heating Boilers and Sensor System DATE: November 5, 2019 Through the competitive quotation process for public improvements, the City Hall Sidewalk Heating Boilers and Sensor System Project was awarded on October 29, 2019, to Portzen Construction, Inc. in the base amount of $77,106. Building Services Manager Dave Johnson recommends that the award for the City Hall Sidewalk Heating Boilers and Sensor System Project be officially recorded in the minutes of the City Council. Van Milligen, City Manager FROM: David Johnson, Building Services Manager-�G SUBJECT: City Hall Sidewalk Heating Boilers and Sensor System DATE: November 5, 2019 The project will replace three (3) 200,000 BTU hot water heaters. The current heaters are nearing the end their lifespan and do not comply with State code. The State of lowa required the hot water heaters be disconnected. The hot water heaters will be replaced with steel heat exchanger boilers in series. The boilers are high efficiency. The new boilers will connect to three (3) existing manifolds which connect to polymer closed loop tubing systems already embedded in the concrete. The following is a summary of bids received for the City Hall Sidewalk Heating System Boilers and Sensor System project. Portzen Construction $ 77,106.27 Crawford Company $ 77,894.00 MMC Mechanical Contractors $ 97,600.00 Modern Piping $153,800.00 In accordance with the competitive quotation process for public improvements, the City Hall Sidewalk Heating System Boilers and Sensor System project was awarded on October 29, 2019 to Portzen Construction, Inc. in Dubuque, IA in the base amount of $77,106.
