Whereas: Kiwanis International is one of the largest service organizations in the world with more
than 551,000 members of all ages and abilities in more than 80 nations; and
Whereas: the members of Kiwanis Club of Dubuque are devoted to improving the world, one child
and one community at a time; and
Whereas: in addition to improving the lives of children in Dubuque and in communities around the
world, Kiwanis club members promote the development of community leaders, positive role models,
intercultural understanding and cooperation, and opportunities for fellowship, personal growth,
professional development and community service and will continue to have a positive impact on our
community and citizens; and
Whereas: the Kiwanis Club of Dubuque annually raises thousands of dollars and distributes those
funds to numerous worthwhile organizations in the community; and
Whereas: the service provided by the Kiwanis Club of Dubuque also involves members of the
Kiwanis family including elementary school K-Kids, middle school Builders Club, high school Key
Clubs and the AKTION club for adults with disabilities; and
Whereas: the first Kiwanis club started in Detroit, Michigan, USA, in 1915; and the Kiwanis Club of
Dubuque was formed on February 14, 1920 and they invite all past members of Kiwanis family and
the public to help them celebrate their 100t" anniversary with a dinner on Saturday, February 29, 2020
at 5:30 p.m. at the Dubuque Shooting Society.
NOW THEREFORE, I, ROY BUOL, MAYOR OF THE CITY OF DUBUQUE, IOWA, ON BEHALF OF
THE CITY COUNCIL, STAFF AND THE CITIZENS OF DUBUQUE, DO HEREBY PROCLAIM THE
14T" DAY OF FEBRUARY 2020 AS:
