Expenditures are at 50% and revenue is at 94% of proj ections. • Checkouts were stable in December; however, visits to the library were up 12%. The Maker Space recorded a record number of visits in December with a count of 602. This represents a 39% increase over December 2018. Twelve of 18 databases showed an increase in use, which may be associated with increased digital marketing. • A comparison of a day in a month of past dues with library fines (March 2019) was compared to a day in a month without fines (January 2020). Materials checked out that were up to seven days overdue increased 5.7%, however; past dues that were over 60 days decreased by 13.6%. The library is getting back more materials long term, which is a boost to the budget. • The Library Foundation agreed to support a grant request to the DRA for a Story Book Walkthatthe library would like to install alongthe Bee Branch walk. The Foundation has already expressed support far this project, but a grant will free up funding for the Foundation to give for other projects as well. • The Board reviewed a second draft of artwork for banners outside the library. A few modifications were suggested and the Board will review a final draft in February. The existing banners will be removed when the building is cleaned this spring, with the newly designed banners installed afterward. • The Board reviewed information on three library apps, which they are interested in adding to increase digital access to the library. Funding must be identified. • The Board approved a new policy regarding animals in the library, that City Attorney, Crenna Brumwell assisted in creating. • The Board approved the Personnel Handbook, which is updated. The update included changes recommended by City Legal and Human Resources. The final draft has been sent to City Legal, Human Resources, and Human Rights. If city staff does not recommend changes that will result in new content, the handbook will be published, otherwise it will return to the Library Board for a final review. • The Board signed a contract with Kimberly Bolan Associates (KBA)to facilitate the creation of a new strategic plan. KBA will use the community survey as the foundation of a new plan. The planning process will kick off on March 25-26 with eight focus groups. A day-long planning retreat will take place on Friday, May 8. The new plan is expected to be ready by the end of this fiscal year.
