To the Honorable Mayor and City Council, Dubuque, Iowa. Gentlemen: Mr. J. A. Clark, treas- urer of Dubuque County, made re- c /uest yesterday that the City Coun- c.l authorize the purchase of a set of printed forms for the City of Dubuque special assessment receipts. He estimates that the year's supply will cost from $75.00 to $100.00. In discussing with him as to why the City should spend money for County forms, he advised that on certain other occasions this expense nad been split between the County and City. Last year the City did not pay anything toward this item. it seems that the Code does not specify as to whether the County or City should stand this expense. Dis- cussing this question with the State Examiners, they Ovise that it is op- tional and not mandatory on the part of the Council to authorize this expenditure. I present this question to you for your decision. Yours very truly, R. M. EVANS, City Manager. Councilman Jansen moved that the petition be received and filed. Sec- onded by Councilman McEvoy. To the Honorable Mayor and City Council, Dubuque, Iowa. Gentlemen: The request of Chas. P. Mettel of the Mettel Land and Se- curity Company of .Lune 6th referred by City Council to the City Engineer cnd the writer for report concerning the location of some 4 x 4 posts set adjacent to the sidewalk on the pro- perty at 14th and Jackson Streets is as follows. We find that the 4 x 4 posts are set as close to the inside of the con - crete sidewalk as is possible. The rear or inside edge of the sidewalk - Jackson Street is about 2 ft, 8 in. from the property line and on 14th Street the sidewalk is about. 3 feet from the property line. Accordingly 'he curb ofde of the posts is on City property or the sidewalk space on Special Session, June 15th, 1931 185 the two streets between 2 to 3 feet.
