INTRODUCTION
The purpose of this memorandum is to provide information related to the 2019 Tree City
USA recognition recently received by the Parks Division for the City of Dubuque.
DISCUSSION
The City of Dubuque Leisure Services Department applied for the Tree City USA
recognition in December of 2019. In February of 2020, staff was notified that the
application was received and approved.
Due to COVID-19 the Urban Forestry awards luncheon scheduled for April 2nd, in
Ankeny, lowa was cancelled.
Dubuque was one of 63 lowa communities to qualify for Tree City USA status. To
receive the recognition, a city must, at a minimum, have either a city forester or an
active city tree board; have a tree ordinance; spend at least $2 per capita annually for
its community forestry program; and have a tree planting and maintenance plan.
We thank the Mayor and City Council for the support of the city's Forestry Program and
our Dubuque Trees Forever partnership related to trees and forestry efforts in our
community.
