Officers: President, Christy Monk; Vice- President, Pam Mullin, and Secretary, Rose Kramer. • At 4,936, the number of past due items over 60 days is higher than it has been since recording began. The 4,936 overdue items totals $114,466.35. Materials due between April 1 and June 15 when the building was closed to the public were placed on"hold" and borrowers were told that they could hang on to the materials until the library reopened, or place them in the book drops. Late notices were not sent during this time. The notification of past due materials was reinstated when the library reopened in June and at this time all media outlets were covered by the announcement encouraging people to return materials. In addition to the standard notifications of past due items, library employees telephoned individual patrons to remind them to return materials. Social media has also been used in an effort to reach borrowers. Unfortunately, the notifications have not had the desired outcome. Increased notifications continue to take place and formal restricted- certified letters are sent to those with balances over $200. • Growth in circulation of digital materials continues, which is 14% above last year at the same time. Social media engagements have also increased compared to the same time last year. • The number of visits to the library is down 68%. These visits do not include curbside pickup, which averages about 15 each day. Visits in July have increased compared to June and are about 18.5% greater. With more people coming into the library, a reduction in the number of curbside visits has been noticed. Of peer libraries in Iowa about half are open and the directors of the open libraries report that business is slow. • During June, Flipster digital magazines was promoted. Use was the highest since the introduction of this service, with an average of nearly 20 downloads every day of the month. The increase in use was maintained during the month of July with only a slight decrease. During July, Transparent Languages was promoted resulting in a 157% increase in use compared to June and the highest use in ll months. • September is National Library Card Sign-Up Month. This year Marketing Coordinator Amanda Dolter has asked Hy-Vee to collaborate with the library and the stores have donated four $50 gift cards. An email list has been created, which will be sent to library cardholders who have not checked out materials from the library in six months. These patrons will be eligible to have their name placed in a drawing to win one of the Hy-Vee gift cards if they check out an item during the month of September. • Carnegie-Stout has received accreditation through 2023 and this was reported in a short article in the Telegraph Herald. • The new strategic planning process is on hold. There are concerns that participation will be low and represent skewed demographics. One example is not hearing from non-library users. Additionally, it is difficult to plan in the midst of a pandemic. We cannot predict what the future will look like and how some changes may become the new normal. Budget cuts is another unknown threat because any reduction that is experienced—whether 10% or 30% - is considered permanent. An unknown budget impact alone requires more time before we can begin the strategic planning process. The Board agreed that the existing Plan of Service would continue for the near future and be adjusted as needed to reflect our current services. • An evaluation of workload among the departments has taken place so that tasks can be reallocated as needed. • The Board voted to bring the website design in-house and use the draft that Michael Kerth has created. Amanda Dolter will wark with Kerth to complete the website by adjusting content, setting standards, introducing one theme, or "brand," and voice. The site should launch any time between December or 2020 and March of 2021.
