Proclamation_Relay for Life Days 2010
PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, Relay for Life is the signature activity of the American Cancer
Society and honors cancer survivors or anyone who has ever been
diagnosed with cancer, and remembers those lost to the disease;
and
WHEREAS, there are an estimated 11.1 million Americans with a history of
cancer alive today; and
WHEREAS, in 2010, more than 1.4 million new cases of cancer will be
diagnosed in the United States. In Iowa, an estimated 16,740 people
will be diagnosed, and 6,360 will die from the disease; and
WHEREAS, money raised during the American Cancer Society Relay for Life of
Dubuque helps support research, education, advocacy and patient
services; and
WHEREAS, Relay for Life helps fund more than $100 million in cancer research
each year.
NOW THEREFORE, I, ROY D. BUOL, MAYOR OF THE CITY OF DUBUQUE, IOWA,
ON BEHALF OF THE CITY COUNCIL, STAFF AND CITIZENS OF DUBUQUE, DO
