Gentlemen: The attached petition, requesting to have the alley between Ashton and Avoca Streets and Decorah and Delaware Streets opened for traffic, was referred to the City Engineer and myself. Mr. Bull, who is building a house on a lot which abutts on this alley, is very desirous of having the alley opened at least part way through the block. We have requested Mr. Bull to advise us as soon as he wishes to use the alley, at which time we will order the obstructions removed. Respectfully submitted, C. E. DOUGLAS, City Manager. WALTER H. CULLEN, City Engineer. Councilman Meuser moved that the recommendation of the City Manager and Engineer be approved, and car- ried out as recommended. Seconded by Councilman Maclay. City 578A and 579 and City Lot 578, it is recommended that this walk be re- constructed in conjunction with our sidewalk program this summer. Respectfully submitted, C. E. DOUGLAS, City Manager. Councilman Meuser moved that the recommendation of the City Manager be approved, and carried out as recommended. Seconded by Council- man Maclay. Carried - by the follow- ing vote: Yeas —Mayor Melchior, Council- men Maclay, Meuser, Schrempf, Yount. Nays —None. March 21st, 1927. Honorable Council, Dubuque, Iowa. Gentlemen: The petition from the Beecher Motor Co., located at 87 Main Street, asking that they be allowed to in- stall an additional gasoline dispens- ing pump on the curb, was referred to the City Manager. Upon investigation I find that the Beecher Motor Co. have one pump on the curb. If the Council wishes to follow the policy of allowing ad- ditional pumps where pumps are al- ready installed on the curb at the same location, I would recommend that this be allowed. Allowing an additional pump at this location would take up very little more room on the curb and would' not cause any more congestion than at present, as only one car could be filled at one time. Respectfully submitted, C. E. DOUGLAS, City Manager. Councilman Meuser moved' that the recommendation of the City Manager be approved, and carried out as recommended. Seconded by Council- man Schrempf. Carried by the fol- lowing vote: Yeas —Mayor Melchior, Council- men Maclay, Meuser, Schrempf, Yount. Nays —None. March 21st, 1927. Honorable Council, Dubuque, Iowa. Gentlemen: The petition to have Quigley's Lane east of Catherine Street to the end of the street and Catherine Street from Quigley's Lane to An- gella Street, graded and permanently improved by paving and construct- ing curb and gutter, was referred to the City Engineer and myself. This has been inspected by the Engineer and myself and we find that in order to grade and pave Quigley's Lane it will be necessary to grade Catherine Street for one block. This block of Catherine Street is solid rock. The cost of grading this block would be prohibi- tive. I would recommend that this petition be not granted at this time but be held for future work. Respectfully submitted, C. E. DOUGLAS, City Manager. WALTER H. CULLEN, City Engineer.
