Veterans Memorial Plaza Maintenance_Richard Goebel CommunicationThe Honorable Mayor
and Members of the Dubuque City Council
City Hall, Dubuque, Iowa
Dear Mayor and Council Members,
VETERANS MEMORIAL PLAZA
P.O. Box 1876
Dubuque, IA 52004 -1876
May 12, 2010
In March of this year we presented a draft resolution to the City Attorney for your
consideration.
We thought the terms of the resolution were reasonable, but understand your
reluctance to bind the City to maintain the Memorial in perpetuity. We do, however,
request that you agree to maintain the Memorial and be responsible for it as you have
done in Resolution No.279 -08, dated August 18, 2008, agreeing to assume all
responsibility for the upkeep and safety of the Cobra helicopter we are installing next to
the Memorial this summer.
We also believe it important that you agree to keep the Memorial lighted and to
replace the flags when needed.
Finally, we ask you to agree that as long as our organization continues to function, the
City will grant us advisory oversight of the Memorial.
We believe we have contributed a significant asset to the City and respectfully request
that you seriously consider what we propose.
Thank You.
