Subject: Midwest Architectural Salvage Warehouse
Dear Mr. DeLire,
This letter is to inform you that the City of Dubuque Historic Preservation
Commission is in full support of the creation of the Midwest Architectural Salvage
Warehouse.
As you may know, the Commission regulates properties located in the histodc
districts and reviews demolition permits in demolition districts. The Commission
usually requires that if a building is to be demolished that the building materials
be salvaged. It is in the best interest of the Commission to have architectural
and historical building materials salvage and reused rather than continue to fill
our landfills.
Several of the property owners in our districts indicate that they can't afford the
cost of new building materials. The Midwest Architectural Salvage will provide an
establishment where the Commission can refer people to when searching for
historic building materials at a reasonable pdce.
