INTRODUCTION The enclosed resolutions provide for the acceptance of the construction contract for the Mississippi River National Education and Conference Center Project - Package #1. DISCUSSION Work has been completed on the project by Kraemer Brothers, LLC of Plain, Wisconsin, in the final contract amount of $1,665,043.68. The project provided for the site clearing, site preparation (including grading and removal of utilities), the deep foundation system, pile caps, and the IFS (Intermediate Foundation System). The IFS provided support for the building slab in the exhibit hall and administrative office areas. RECOMMENDATION I recommend that the City Council accept the improvements and the final contract be established at $1,665, 043.68. BUDGET IMPACT A summary of the project cost is as follows: Award Final Construction Contract $1,597,000.00 $1,665,043.68 The Mississippi River National Education and Conference Center Project - Package #1 is funded from DRA Distribution, Vision Iowa grant funds, and from proceeds of the General Obligation Bonds sold in December 2001, and January 2002. ACTION TO BE TAKEN The City Council is requested to adopt the attached resolutions accepting the improvement and establishing the final construction cost. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DUBUQUE, IOWA: Section 1. That the recommendation of the City Manager be approved and that said improvement be and the same is hereby accepted. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Treasurer be and he is hereby directed to pay to the contractor from DRA Distribution, Vision Iowa grant funds, and proceeds from General Obligation Bonds in amount equal to the amount of his contract, less any retained percentage provided for therein. This work is clearly not worth $6,$77.28. Please review this information with your people arzd get back to me. Kraemer Brothers is very ar~ious to resolve this issue and close out the project.
