Whereas, since 1912, Girl Scouts have had a special place in their hearts for caring for the
environment, beginning with their founder, Juliette Gordon Low, and
Whereas, Girl Scouts are joining force with the Elliott Wildlife Values Project and American
Forests to launch a bold tree-planting initiative to plant 5 million trees by 2025, and
Whereas, this initiative, known as the Girl Scout Tree Promise, is great for wildlife, and will provide
tangible climate solutions, and
Whereas, Girl Scouts across the country are being called to help by planting, protecting and
honoring trees in their backyards, communities, states, across the country and even
across the world, and
Whereas, Girl Scouts across the country will use their knowledge, skills and passions to make the
Girl Scout Tree Promise a reality, and
Whereas. the Girl Scout Tree Promise will launch on the 50t" Anniversary of Earth Day, April 22,
2021.
NOW THEREFORE, I, ROY BUOL, MAYOR OF THE CITY OF DUBUQUE, IOWA, ON BEHALF OF
THE CITY COUNCIL, STAFF AND THE CITIZENS OF DUBUQUE, DO HEREBY PROCLAIM THE
22nd DAY OF APRIL 2021 AS
"Girl Scout Tree Promise Day"
IN THE CITY OF DUBUQUE, IOWA.
IN WITNESS THEREOF, I have hereunto set my
hand and caused the Great Seal of the City of
Dubuque to be affixed this 5th day of April 2021.
