Minutes Human Rights 6 25 03DUBUQUE HUMAN RIGHTS COMMISSION MINUTES OF June 25, 2003 Judy Giesen called a special meeting of the Dubuque Human Rights Commission to order at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday, June 25, 2003, in Conference Room 2 at the City Hall Annex. Roll Call: Present: Lou Oswald Codne Murray Bill Ross Chuck Ryan Evelyn Jackson Judy Giesen Vincent Vanden Huevel Penny Ehlinger Absent: Raydora Drummer Staff: Kelly Larson The Commission met to evaluate the impact of budget cuts on people with limited incomes and people with disabilities. Guest Speaker: Sarah Davidson voiced her concems about the proposed transit fare increases and the elimination of bus service on Saturday, and how this will affect her as she is a person with a disability on a limited income, and has a need for Saturday service. Commissioners discussed a vadety of options for addressing Ms. Davidson's cencems: * Letter to the Editor * Letter to City Council Members * Personal phone calls to City Council Members * Ride the bus distributing flyers, asking people how they will be impacted * News release Other actions as individuals: * Call City Council Members * Ride the bus * Be at the public meeting * Help Sarah distribute flyers Commissioner Jackson moved to put either My View or Letter to the Editor in the Telegraph Herald on behalf of the Dubuque Human Rights Commission. Commissioner Murray seconded. All in favor. Adjournment Commissioner Oswald moved and Commissioner Murray seconded to adjourn the meeting. All in favor.
