PIROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, historic preservation is an effective tool for creating sustainable communities, managing
growth, revitalizing neighborhoods, fostering local pride, and maintaining community
character while enhancing livability; and
WHEREAS, historic preservation is relevant for communities across the nation, both urban and rural,
and for Americans of all ages, all walks of life and all ethnic backgrounds; and
WHEREAS, it is important to celebrate the role of history in our lives and the contributions made by
dedicated individuals in helping to preserve the tangible aspects of the heritage that has
shaped us as a people; and
WHEREAS, the City honors preservation efforts annually through the Ken Kringle Historic
Preservation Awards, in partnership with the Dubuque County Historic Preservation
Commission and Dubuque Main Street, taking place on May 18t" this year; and
WHEREAS, Preservation Month, sponsored by the City of Dubuque Historic Preservation
Commission, is an opportunity for the community to appreciate and enhance the history
and architecture that is significant to our community's past and future.
NOW THEREFORE, I, ROY D. BUOL, MAYOR OF THE CITY OF DUBUQUE, IOWA, ON BEHALF
OF THE CITY COUNCIL, STAFF AND THE CITIZENS OF DUBUQUE, DO HEREBY PROCLAIM
THE MONTH OF MAY 2021 AS
"PRESERVATION MONTH"
IN THE CITY OF DUBUQUE, CALLING UPON OUR CITIZENS TO JOIN FELLOW CITIZENS
ACROSS THE UNITED STATES IN RECOGNIZING AND PARTICIPATING IN THIS SPECIAL
OBSERVANCE.
IN WITNESS THEREOF, I have hereunto set my
