Mayor Roy Buol & City Council
City of Dubuque
5011 W. 1311 St.
Dubuque, Iowa 52001
Dear Mayor Buol & City Council:
Black Hills Energy would like to request a work session on Monday, August 16 at 5:30 p.m
During this meeting, we hope to share Black Hills Energy's sustainability strategy as a multi-
state natural gas and electric utility and specifically discuss partnership with the City of Dubuque
in climate action goals. Most recently, we completed the renewable natural gas project at the
Dubuque Metropolitan Area Solid Waste Agency (DMASWA) in partnership with Enerdyne
Power Systems, and we continue to see interest in renewable natural gas projects across the
state.
As a company we have implemented greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reduction goals that will
support Dubuque's 2020 Climate Action plan. In correlation with our mission of improving life
with energy, we recently conducted a study with GTI, a leading independent research non-profit,
to explore the environmental, economic and energy grid impacts of changes to electric and
natural gas usage in Iowa, with results on the direct impacts it would have on residents in
Dubuque.
We would look forward to sharing and answering your questions. Thank you for your
consideration.
Sincerely,
Shirley Welte
Vice President of Operations
