PIROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, the United States Highway 20 has been named a Medal of Honor Highway; and
WHEREAS, a Medal of Honor Highway, which pays homage to the nation's most heroic military; and
WHEREAS, the Medal of Honor was first presented during the Civil War; 3,508 awards have been
issued with every state represented. To earn the Medal of Honor, a member of the U.S.
Armed Forces must act with "conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity above and beyond
the call of duty during combat at the risk of one's life against an enemy of the United
States.", and
WHEREAS, Dubuque is Iowa's first city, and US Highway 20 is the cities major arterial through the
city, and
WHEREAS, as one of the oldest American Legion Posts in Iowa, and with Dubuque as Iowa's first
city, American Legion Post 6 of Dubuque is proudly hosting the hand-off ceremony to
recognize this new designation of US Highway 20, to be held at the newly updated $3.2
million Dubuque Veterans Memorial Plaza on 24 July 2021 at 6:00 p.m.
NOW THEREFORE, I, ROY D. O'BUOL, MAYOR OF THE CITY OF DUBUQUE, IOWA, ON BEHALF
OF THE CITY COUNCIL, STAFF AND CITIZENS OF DUBUQUE, DO HEREBY PROCLAIM US
HIGHWAY 20, AS
"A MEDAL OF HONOR HIGHWAY"
IN THE CITY OF DUBUQUE, IOWA, AND CALL UPON THE PEOPLE OF THE DUBUQUE AREA
TO SUPPORT THIS EVENT, AND PAY HOMAGE TO ALL MEDAL OF HONOR AWARDEES, OUT
NATION'S MOST HEROIC MILITARY.
IN WITNESS THEREOF, I have hereunto set my
hand and caused the Great Seal of the City of
Dubuque to be affixed this 19th day of July 2021.
