WHEREAS, Sister Cities International traces its roots to 1956 when President Dwight
D. Eisenhower proposed a people -to -people citizen diplomacy initiative
that creates global cooperation at the local level while promoting
sustainable development, youth involvement, cultural understanding, and
humanitarian assistance; and
WHEREAS, the Sister Cities International network represents more than 2,500
communities in 137 countries around the world; and
WHEREAS, the City of Dubuque has established official Sister City relationships with
three cities: Pyatigorsk, Russia; Handan, China; and Dornbirn, Austria;
and
WHEREAS, the Sister City Relationships Committee of Travel Dubuque will present an
exhibition that recognizes and promotes each city through photos, food
samples and music; and
WHEREAS, this free informative, family -friendly exhibition will take place from 3-9 p.m.
on Thursday, October 14; 1-6 p.m. on Friday, October 15; and 10-3 p.m.
on Saturday, October 16, at 955 Washington Street.
NOW THEREFORE, I, ROY D. BUOL, MAYOR OF THE CITY OF DUBUQUE, IOWA,
ON BEHALF OF THE CITY COUNCIL, STAFF AND THE CITIZENS OF DUBUQUE,
DO HEREBY PROCLAIM OCTOBER 14 THROUGH 16, 2021 AS
"SISTER CITY RELATIONSHIPS RECOGNITION DAYS"
IN THE CITY OF DUBUQUE, IOWA.
IN WITNESS THEREOF, I have
hereunto set my hand and caused the
Great Seal of the City of Dubuque to be
affixed this 4th day of October, 2021.
