The City of Dubuque has long been a leader in sustainability in the region. We have a history of partnering with the University of Dubuque on environmental initiatives including grants which support student or faculty projects, collaborations to better understand and improve water quality in our watershed, as well as providing expertise during the update to the City's 50% by 2030 Community Climate Action and Resiliency Plan. The University of Dubuque's proposal to bring a climate scientist to Dubuque will create numerous opportunities for collaborations and outreach throughout the City. This could include educational opportunities for city staff and residents related to the 50% by 2030 Plan. A clear alignment for education and outreach would be partnering with our Teen Resiliency Corps. The City's Sustainability Office, working with the Multicultural Family Center has formed the teen group which set out to address community needs related to sustainability. The teens canvass Dubuque neighborhoods, check in on folks and focus on energy efficiency in housing and resiliency building. Another opportunity to further enrich our City would be participation in the Growing Sustainable Communities Conference, held annually in Dubuque. It is a forum offering innovation, education, inspiration, and collaboration on growing sustainable communities. Federal, state, and local governments, along with business and academic leaders gather from across the country gather to share knowledge, best practices, and learn from one another. The City of Dubuque is committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion and recognize we are better with diverse perspectives and input. Hosting a S-I-R in Dubuque would be a great opportunity to highlight Dubuque's sustainable vision while incorporating the knowledge and expertise of an outside expert. We are excited to support the University of Dubuque's proposal and are excited at the prospect of providing an opportunity for the S-I-R to engage with the climate -conscience, passionate citizens of Dubuque.
