Environmental Stewardship Commission_Public InvitationMayor Roy Buol and City Council Members 50 West 13 Street Dubuque IA 52001 Dear Mr. Mayor and City Council Members: In an attempt to engage Dubuque's citizens in further conversations about sustainability and to gather the wisdom ideas of our city's foremost proponents of sustainable practices, the Environmental Stewardship Advisory Commission (ESAC) would like to extend an invitation to the public to attend our meetings and propose new and innovative ways in which the City of Dubuque can move further along the continuum of sustainability. We believe such discussions and input will keep the goal of creating a more sustainable community at the forefront of citizens' thoughts and will foster the type of creative thinking that allows for the seeds of innovation to germinate. Citizens with ideas relating to current city sustainability initiatives, or ones with ideas for new city -wide initiatives can present them to the commission. ESAC can then review and further research the ideas brought forth by citizens. Finally, the commission can forward on to the City Council the ideas that are considered to have the greatest merit and potential positive outcomes related to the city's path towards a more sustainable community. We ask for your support in implementing the public input portion of our ESAC meetings by helping to provide public notices of the meetings and the message that we will welcome ideas that will allow the City of Dubuque to implement more sustainable practices. Sincerely, Wahine Klostermann, Chair Environmental Stewardship Advisory Commission July 12, 2010
