ARTS AND CULTURAL AFFAIRS ADVISORY COMMISSION
Wednesday, June 16, 2010
Orpheum Room, Five Flags Center
4 and Locust Streets, Dubuque, IA
Meeting was called to order at 3:00 p.m. following staff assurance of compliance
with the Iowa Open Meeting Law.
Commissioners present: Ellen Henkels (on phone), Louise Kames, Sue Riedel, Geri
Shafer. Staff Present: Jerelyn O'Connor, Jan Stoffel
NEW BUSINESS
1. Funding Decisions for Special Project Grants.
In preparing the City Council memo transmitting the Commission's funding
recommendations from the June 10 meeting, staff noted that one of the projects
had not met the program guidelines. The Grand Opera House applied for $2,250
in grant funds for a $3,000 project. Staff verified that the minimum match was
met, but the minimum $2,500 grant was not, making the application ineligible.
Staff and Commissioners regretted the situation and reiterated that the Grand
application was a good one, but ineligible. The application from the Tri -State
Wind Symphony was also ineligible for the same reason.
Henkels moved and Kames seconded to award the $2,250 formerly designated
to the Grand to the next organization in the point rankings, the Dubuque Art
Center. Motion passed 4 -0.
Kames moved and Shafer seconded to rescind the recommendation to Council
made at the July 10 meeting to carry over $675 to the 2011 -2012 Special Project
and to award to the next organization in the point rankings, the Dubuque Art
Center. Motion passed 4 -0.
ADJOURNMENT
Riedel moved and Kames seconded to adjourn the meeting at 3:30 p.m. The
next meeting will be held on July 27, 2010, at a site to be announced.
