Dubuque 2.0 Update from Justin Thiltgendubu u q MEMORANDUM TO: DUBUQUE CITY COUNCIL & CITY MANAGER FROM: JUSTIN THILTGEN, DIRECTOR - DUBUQUE 2.0 SUBJECT: INITIATIVE UPDATE DATE: 7/19/2010 CC: NANCY VAN MILLIGEN, ERIC DREGNE, AND MOLLY GROVER Honorable Mayor, City Council, and Mr. Van Milligen: We present this memo to serve as an update on Dubuque 2.0. After successful efforts to achieve proper funding for our efforts, Dubuque 2.0 is excited to update the council on it projects and a status update with this memo. Dubuque 2.0 Challenge Game: (similar to a Carbon Diet Challenge) The Dubuque 2.0 Steering Committee is working with a sub - committee of local leaders and activists to form a community -wide game for citizens. The game will: ➢ Allow us to host community cafe events which will bring people together to discuss sustainability, learn about the Dubuque 2.0 game, and create opportunities to engage with others about living a more sustainable lifestyle. ➢ Educate and encourage individuals to modify behavior to live more sustainable lives at home, work, school, and throughout the community. ➢ Focus on participation and personal sustainable actions, while educating on the environmental, financial, and social costs or benefits of each activity. The game and community cafes are intended be fun, exciting, and open to all members of the community with opportunities to learn, win prizes, and create neighborhood and workplace partnerships. Dubuque 2.0 Interactive Web Portal Dubuque 2.0 is expanding its website with robust content, interactive features, and added opportunities for community engagement. New features will include, but are not limited to: > An interactive, citizen generated green asset map, building on the current resource offered on the Sustainable Dubuque website. The map will promote inclusive participation in sustainable community development and create perspective- changing comprehensive inventories for decision - making and as practical guides for residents and tourists. ➢ An online community -wide discussion forum creating a true one - stop -shop for information and all things sustainable - information, discussions, surveys, and solutions. ➢ Information portal for up -to -date news from the EPA and other experts in the field. Sticker Campaign: The Dubuque 2.0 sticker and window decal campaign is currently underway with digital billboards and interest generated through direct publicity. ➢ The Dubuque 2.0 stickers are used to identify sustainable products, services, or actions. ➢ The Dubuque 2.0 window decals are a way for local businesses, schools, organizations, and citizens to show their support for Dubuque 2.0 and their desire to live more sustainably. ➢ Stickers and decals are available from Dubuque 2.0 at the Community Foundation of Greater Dubuque and the Dubuque Area Chamber of Commerce. 2
