Final arrangements have been completed for the public arr.ouncement
and presentation of the winner of the Five Flags Sculpture Competition.
judging of the entries starts tomorrow, and will be completed yet this
week. The winner will then be advised by telephone by the Mayor.
A public reception will be held on the first floor of the Dubuque Building
from 11:30 to 1:30 PM next Monday, November 5. During this reception.,
the Mayor; Jack Olds, Director of the Iowa Arts Council; Wayne Norman,
President of the Iowa Arts Council; and Mrs. David (.Mary Jo) Willy,
President of The Dubuque Art Association, will participate in a brief cer-
emony awarding the $1 , 000 prize to the winner of the competition.
Arrangements have been made with The Dubuque Art Association to staff
the display area in order that the public may personally view all of the
various entries during the week of November 5. The entries will also be
available in the Dubuque Building for general viewing the balance of
November.
Upon completion of the formal program next Monday at the Dubuque Build-
ing, Wayne Norman will host a luncheon at the Ryan House in honor of
the occasion. Wayne has requested me to extend a special invitation to
each Councilman to be his guest for this luncheon. If you will advise me
of your availability, I will be glad to make the necessary reservation.
The luncheon should be served at approximately 1:45 PM.
We also hope you can be present at the Dubuque Building next Monday be-
tween 11:30 to 1:30, to share in the excitement of viewing the design
which will represent the piece of sculpture to be fabricated and erected in
Town Clock Plaza early next year.
