Mr. Robert W. Dillon, Chairman
Iowa American Revolution Bicentennial
Commission
State House
Des Moines, Iowa 50319
Dear Mr. Dillon:
Please convey my appreciation to the members of the Iowa American Revolu-
tion Bicentennial Commission for their hospitality to the representatives
from Dubuque at your meeting last Tuesday.
Wayne Norman, General Chairman of. the Five Flags Center Fund, has told
me of your enthusiasm for Dubuque's program to appropriately celebrate the
occasion of the bicentennial year. Your continued interest and support for
the Five Flags Center Project is urged. We believe this project is unique
and deserves the special attention of our many bicentennial friends both at
the state and Federal level. This project represents a total community under-
taking and addresses all of the bicentennial themes. This project is a per-
manent and living memorial for future generations of Americans.
The proposed Meeting House Program appears to be an exciting adventure,
and the City of Dubuque wishes to be a participant. We commend to you the
Five Flags Center Project as an undertaking worthy of your full consideration
and endorsement as meeting the criteria of the Meeting House Preservation
Act. We need not remind you of Dubuque's involvement during the American
Revolutionary War Period, and we need not remind you that Dubuque, the old-
est city in Iowa, is prepared to carry out its role in the next century.
Please permit me or Gent M. Wittenberg, Director of Community Development
for the City of Dubuque, provide you any additional information which may be
helpful as you evaluate your decision for the forthcoming Meeting House
Program.
Sincerely,
Allan T. Thoms
Mayor
