Letter from City Engineer on Water and Sewer Mains_01.31.1977THE CITY OF DUBUQUE f GtT i'\Q R x m r P — A a 4 rCMA1VNItN yi T OFFIOE OF THE CITY ENGINEER CITY 14ALL :. OU BUQU E. IOSYA O).00I Telephone (319) 583-6441 Ext. 48 January 31, 1977 Mr. Neil Nemmetz Arnold & O'Sheridan Consulting Engineers 815 Forward Drive Madison, WI 53711 Re: Five Flags Civic Center -Dear Mr. Nemmetz: In regard to your January 21, 1977 letter, the following comments are made: 1. If the 10" sanitary sewer is to remain in place, it would have to be replaced by ductile iron pipe. It would be possible, however, to re-route the line east on 5th Street to connect with the present 10" sewer on Iowa Street. 2. If the 20" water main is to be located within the tunnel, it would have to be replaced by ductile iron pipe with restrained joints. The line could also be relocated west on 5th Street to Locust, then south on Locust to 3rd Street, where it would connect to the present main at 3rd and Locust. In either case the amount of interrupted service would have to be held to a minimum because the line is the major feed into the area. A parallel system would have to be constructed and completed prior to the transfer from the old system to the new. The depth of the 20" water main at 4th Street is 4'2", and is located 914" west of the east alley line. The depth at 5th Street is 6'011, and is located 1114" west of the east alley line. The water main marked as "4" LP We scheduled to be removed" on Cullen-Schiltz's drawing dated October 8, 1973 has been capped and abandoned. This pipe could be removed. .3. We do not have any specific code requirements as to utilities located within a tunnel such as is proposed here. We would have to work out the needs of each utility company individually.
