Tentative Philosophy StatementsTentative Philosophy Statements The facility should be as multi -purpose in scope as is practical. It should be people oriented, inviting and pleasing to the people of Dubuque's aesthetics . We view the arena as primarily for skating (free -skating and hockey). Athletic or recreational events such as basketball, volleyball, tennis, etc. will use it on a limited basis when large spectator events call for it. Economics will dictate these decisions frequently. Trade shows, conventions and special events will have priority; however, these are scheduled far in advance and can be planned for. Our goal is to help the community economically by bringing in trade shows, conventions and promoting tourism. We wish the promenade to flow from Main to Locust with the service area in the center. The arena half on the Locust Street side will be used for skating most of the time. The Main Street half will be available for small shows, sports, etc. except when whole arena is needed. We want the possibility of two totally separate divisions for the arena (one major ticket office on Main Street side and another smaller ticket booth possibly at skate rental shop) on the Locust Street side. Heavy usage of the cross over in the center service corridor would be accessible to both halves of the arena. The ice removal area (steam pit) should be on the end where ice will be used most frequently (Locust Street side). The kitchen (holding kitchen) and elevator should be near Main Street entrance. The Committee wishes to plan for one resident theatrical group. Use boiler room space for dressing rooms. We want to know what additional square footage would be necessary for planning for a resident group and have much more footage than on present schematics. We feel there is need for more storage. We wish to put in the basic equipment affordable and to provide a place for added equipment as the need and money dictates. The Committee thinks small versatile meeting rooms will be very much in demand. They should be equipped for seminars. -z- Grophic arts will be provided by the Art Association (Barn and Jail) but the walls of the promenade should lend themselves for exhibiting art. We feel a good promotional manager will be a key factor, one who can schedule wisely and economically.
