Re: Five Flags Civic Center

Dear Ron:
October 13, 1976
Thank you for your letter of September 28, 1976. Persuant to our telephone
conversation we suggest the following Twin City area rinks as potentially
worth while for a visit by you and your customers.
1. RICEFI= IJ:dICIPAL ARMTA. This rink was built in 1971 at a cost of
1, OO,000.00. It is situated in the south suburb which also contains
the airport and is therefore handy for access. It has brick walls
burnished block interior and an extremely handsome laminated beam wood
roof with approximately 2,000 seats. There is the usual facilities for
hockey locker rooms and public skate change areas.
2. BMISVILLE MUNICIPAL =11K. Built in 1973 at a cost of $850,000.00 of
laminated arch construction with wood roof deck. The unit has approximately
1,800 seats and the usual locker facilities. A very good example of
a handsome simple architectural design to accomplish a desired result at
a minimum cost. This rink is located about 10 miles straight south of
the Richfield Rink.
3. PARADE STADIUMI ICE A101A. Owned by the Minneapolis Park Board, this
facility is operated in conjunction with other park facilities including
a football stadium and tennis courts. It includes a full sized rink with
300 to 400 seats and an attached studio rink approximately 60 A 95. The
rink was built in 1974 at a total cost of approximately $112001000.00,
b. ST. LOUIS PARK C0I120iITY CENTER. This is a multi -purpose sports facility
including an eig t lane olympic pool with subsidiary small pools for
diving and children, multiple tennis courts and community meeting rooms
and club rooms for citizens, senior citizens and others. This

5. OOLM-IBIA ICE ARENA. Owned by Anoka County in Fridley, Minnesota on
the north side of Ydnneapolis. This unit was built in approximately 1970
for approximately $8502000.00 and is a beautiful year around facility
which now has a second rink added on in back. Seating is collapsible
gymnasium seating for in excess of 1,000 seats.
6. ST. PAUL CIVIC CENTER This facility was completed as a municipal
project for the City of St. Paul in the Downtown St. Paul Area. It
has seating for over 11,5000and was built to accommodate the St. Paul
°Fighting Saints" team of the ?'.orld Hockey League. It also accommodates
numerous other events such as Rock Concerts throughout the year. One
of its unusual features is the hockey dasher boards which are constructed
of plexi-glass all the way up from the ground giving spectators visibility
right through the boards.
The above listed rinks probably call for somewhere in the area of 100 miles of
driving in order to make them all, which is perfectly acceptable for a one day
trip. In addition, we have many other rinks which I have not listed which would
largely duplicate what you have already seen; I have also excluded the three
inexpensive rinks which are almost entirely devoted to skating such as North St.
Paul, Bloomington Ice Gardens and Coon Rapids.
Please let me know when you intend to come so that I can check on the various
rink schedules and make sure we are able to get into each of the structures.
truly yours,
