This project will enable the creation of a 157 -acre County park and campground with accommodations for bicyclists adjacent to the Heritage Trail near Graf. The Dubuque County Heritage Trail offers a safe and accessible route through picturesque open space corridors, with scenic views of woodlands, farmland and limestone bluffs. It provides links to open space amenities along its 26 -mile length and at its termini. It is a valuable recreational and tourism resource for the tri -state area. The 2008 City of Dubuque Comprehensive Plan contains goals and objectives for maintaining existing bike /hike trails and creating a comprehensive bicycle and pedestrian network throughout the community. The Dubuque County Heritage Trail is an important component of this network. Adding facilities to accommodate trail users would be an important amenity for this network. The Dubuque Comprehensive Plan also contains goals and objectives for maintaining and strengthening Dubuque's position as a tourist destination, as well as continuing to identify the type of parks, park facilities and hike /bike trails lacking in the community. Creating a park and campground destination along the Heritage Trail that accommodates bicyclists would be a significant addition to tourism venues in our area. Sincerely, LLN„O.
