Catfish Creek Pumping Station Generator Project Bid AwardMasterpiece on the Mississippi
TO: The Honorable Mayor and City Council Members
FROM: Michael C. Van Milligen, City Manager
SUBJECT: Bids for the Catfish Creek Generator Project
DATE: August 9, 2010
Sealed bids were received for the Catfish Creek Generator Project. Water Pollution
Control Plant Manager Jonathan Brown recommends award of the contract to the low
bidder, A &G Electric, in the amount of $92,100.
Standby generators have been added at two of the three major pumping stations
serving the sanitary sewer collection system of the City of Dubuque. The generator at
Cedar Street was included in the major rebuild of the station from 2005 -2007 and the
Terminal Street Station generator was added during the electrical upgrades in 2008-
2009. This project will complete the installation of standby power at the major pumping
stations. The small stations are served by two portable generators and the ability to use
a diesel powered portable pump. By completing this series of projects, the City of
Dubuque will greatly reduce the risk of sanitary sewer overflows caused by power
outages.
I concur with the recommendation and respectfully request Mayor and City Council
approval.
